For Immediate Release: August 1, 2007
In response to numerous proclamations by Presidential candidates about the importance
of faith in their lives, the national advocacy group In God We Trust today announced a campaign aimed at surveying all the
announced presidential candidates about their true commitments to defending religious freedom from special interest groups
committed to banning God from the public square.
"Now that election season has begun and Presidential candidates from both major political parties are chasing after the
support of religious voters, we are hearing an awful lot of proclamations from politicians about how important faith is in
their lives," says In God We Trust chairmam The Rt. Reverend Council Nedd II. "Hillary Clinton, Rudy Guliani,
Barak Obama, John Edwards and rest - they are all desperately trying to prove how committed they are to maintaining America's
religious heritage. They question is, are they telling the truth, or are they simply pandering for votes?" he adds.
In God We Trust will
send detailed surveys to each of the candidates for the presidency from both major political parties. The survey will
ask that each candidate take a public position, in writing, on a variety of issues ranging from prayer in schools, privately
financed religious displays on public property, defending people of faith from public ridicule and scorn from members of the
"entertainment industry, and numerous other issues of interest to the 91% of Americans who believe in God.
"In God We Trust's
40,000 members and supporters will be asked to lobby each of the Presidential candidates by urging them to fill out and return
the survey. Results will be made public so the American people can see first-hand how truly committed those who wish
to occupy the White House are to defending our religious heritage," explains Nedd.
