U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer

In God We Trust hereby bestows "The Cup of Wrath" on United States Senator Barbara Boxer of California for using all her political might to block a non-binding Senate resolution honoring the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States.

Senator Boxer, never one to shy away from any opportunity to force her extreme left-wing views down the throats of ordinary Americans, stood alone in opposing an innocent Senate resolution about one of the world's most popular and influential religious figures.

Specifically, Boxer opposed language in the resolution that stated, "Pope Benedict XVI has spoken approvingly of the vibrance of religious faith in the United States, a faith nourished by a Constitutional commitment to religious liberty that neither attempts to strip our public spaces of religious expression nor denies the ultimate source of our rights and liberties."

The crusading Senator used parliamentary procedure to block the resolution from being voted on by the Senate thus risking embarrassing the United States by insulting the pontiff during his historic visit to America.

Unfortunately, in the end Senator Boxer's temper tantrum paid off and this clause was stripped from the resolution before its final passage by the Senate.
For exhibiting an embarrassing disdain for members of the Catholic faith and for abusing her powers as a United States Senator to impose her radical politically correct and anti-religious views on her fellow U.S. Senators, Barbara Boxer has earned herself a full draught from the Cup of Wrath.
